1/21/2024 0 Comments Owner of harmony park safari![]() ![]() We split our time between Birmingham and New Orleans though call anywhere we are ‘home’. I’ve had two careers: first as CPO from a subsidiary spinoff of IMAX, then once I decided to return to an office setting when my boys were old enough to go to school, I became Creative Director at a magazine which is crazy fun. They are active in youth groups and school activities and one will be competing in sports in Israel this summer while the other will be a camp counselor for kids with disabilities. Married to the best person I’ve ever known, we are just smitten with our two sons who are 15 months apart. Besides those things, I like to share recipes and visits to fab restaurants, museums, and hotels. Be prepared to have an extremely good time if you're the type that enjoys hanging out with animals.Hi – I’m Ginger. I document vernacular and visionary art and art environments, and study Southern folkways, currently documenting 100+ Alabama graveshelters. Bring a towel or two to throw across the door if concerned about mess. There is no gift shop or food service, so bring snacks if you plan to stay several hours. There is no cell service in the 's a beautiful drive out in the country. Bring antibacterial wipes (there is a hand washing station at the end). Bring a camera.you won't want to miss out on the priceless photo ops. Go earlier in the day, when the animals are most hungry and alert, especially in the summer. Wear clothes/shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Romaine lettuce is $1.00/cup, and the tortoises/turtles will polish off a cup in two minutes or less, so consider bringing some lettuce (we packed a ziploc bag and used it up entirely, along with four cups of lettuce we bought on site). There are no restrooms (port-a-potties only). It's $9.00 per person, $5.00 for a bucket of food (we used two buckets) 2. There is a sign nearby that advises everyone to slow down and enjoy this place "far from the troubled world outside." Harmony Park lived up to that advice.we were there for over three hours and I found myself totally immersed in the tortoises. I figured we'd get to feed some tortoises through a fence, or maybe from a distance.wrong! My daughter and I had tortoises climbing up our legs (again, jeans in the wash after muddy tortoise foot prints :-) and stepping on our feet (they're heavy) to get to the romaine lettuce we brought.there are a dozen or more tortoises and some turtles.all are clearly used to people and enjoy the lettuce tremendously. The most fun (and worth the price of admission alone) was the tortoise enclosure. The emu and ostrich are fascinating and peck at the food without being aggressive. If you prefer to avoid encountering a mess, just drive forward, with the windows rolled up.they seem to understand and are not aggressive in any way. The bison, yak, and buffalo are very large and lumbering animals, and not so neat in their eating habits (I got slobbered on by a bull.no problem though, just put jeans in the wash upon returning home). First, the drive-thru experience: you will likely need a car wash afterward, but the animals are sweet and gentle, obviously experienced in doing their part to eat with as little mess as possible. Harmony Safari Park is part drive-thru zoo (the animals visit you and the food you bring them), part walk-through. Your kids will go crazy !!! We didn't see any snack area or snack shop so bring your own food and drink it you think you'll be getting the munchies. ![]() We're from the Chicago area and have done museums, the art institute, Navy Pier etc but, i gotta say.this was a lot more fun. With the exception of the tortoises, all the other animals on the walk-thru are caged so no worries. You can feed lettuce to the tortoises and that's fun also. Then, there is another part that you walk thru that has monkeys, tortoises, aligators etc. It takes about maybe 45 mins or you could go a little slower. You might get a little slobber on your windows but it's no big deal. They weren't being aggressive.they just wanted the food. They were all pretty docile except those ostriches pecking at the cups of food. ![]() You must stay in your car at all times but you can open your windows to feed the animals. And, you can get a pretty good sized bucket of feed for the animals for only $5. The first part is a drive-thru "safari" featuring steers, zebras, ostriches, llamas. We love, loved this place !!! There are 2 parts. ![]()
